At Classic Homes of Whittier we celebrate Whittier by presenting snapshots of its history and an illustrated timeline of local historic landmark homes.

When my husband, Loreto, and I moved to Whittier more than 25 years and three daughters ago our first home was both historic and a total fixer-upper Uptown District rental. We enjoyed the challenge.

We’d been living in Pasadena where I worked as an auditor for Ernst and Young, the international CPA firm. I was part of a team that produced financial statements for the firm’s large and sometimes publicly traded corporate clients. My husband was working on a feature length film project.

Apart from our careers we wanted to start a family and had decided that Whittier was a good place to do it. Helping that decision along was an employment offer from my parents to help them in the management of their businesses, a clothing factory in Los Angeles and Dattilo Ristorante located on Greenleaf Ave. in Whittier.

As our young family grew so did our proficiency in restoring the old homes we lived in and I had a new challenge. We had purchased our dream home. It was classic and might even qualify as a local historic landmark. What to do? After my research suggested that our home was qualified I began the work that was necessary to make that application and learned that our home might also qualify, under the Mills Act, for a significant property tax reduction. That was another application, and when both were approved in 2004 our home became a Local Historic Landmark and as well each year we were saving tax dollars.

Today I am a top-producing agent at the Whittier office of Keller Williams Realty where I specialize in assisting clients in buying and selling Whittier area classic and historic landmark homes and contemporary classics as well as investment properties.
